Have you tried or used tea tree oil (melaleuca)?
This one essential oil has a plethora of research and benefits for all. I have written on the benefits of tea tree oil for psoriasis and skin. But this one oil can do so much more including eradicate antibiotic resistant bacteria.
What is Tea Tree Oil?
Tea tree leaves grow on a melaleuca tree and the oil is extracted by distilling steam from the leaves. This oil has analgesic, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antioxidant, and antiparasitic properties. Tea tree oil may be used as a decongestant, an expectorant, for digestive issues, as an immune stimulator, for tissue regeneration, and is insecticidal. These leaves/oil have been used for centuries as a natural healing oil for skin and for building the immune system.
Tea tree oil is able to be applied directly to the skin topically, diffused into the air, 5-10 drops can be added to lotions, shampoos, and body washes, applied to reflex points, be used as a dietary supplement, and added into bath water along with bath salts to promote skin and body healing.
As a dietary supplement, it is not recommended for children under 6, but can be diluted one drop of oil in 4 ounces of liquid for immunity and healing.
Tea Tree Oil Destroys MRSA (methicillin-resisitant staph) and MSSA (methicillin-sensitie staph)
Recently in the U.S., there has been a rise in the number of infections and deaths caused by MRSA. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a type (strain) of staph bacteria that does not respond to some antibiotics that are commonly used to treat staph infections. This is what makes it so dangerous and deadly.
What is you could kill this bacteria and protect your friends and family?
You can! A study in the Journal of Medical Microbiology 55(Pt 10):1375-80 (Oct. 2006), Brady et al. found that MRSA and MSSA were eradicated/destroyed by a 5% solution of tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is a natural essential oil. This means that you can utilize tea tree oil to disinfect and clean within your home, office, clinic, nursing home, etc. to kill MRSA without using harsh and toxic chemical cleaners.
It was also reported in the Journal of Hospital Infection, that tea tree oil is as effective as drug therapy for the treatment of certain staph infections on the skin.
These studies are important. They provide evidence that natural healing is possible and happens. With the rise of MRSA infections, and during a time when increasing antibiotic use is giving rise to more resistant strains of bacteria, identifying treatments for infection that don’t depend on antibiotics is an important.
