Fibromyalgia is a very misunderstood condition. Fibromyalgia is a diagnosis that may include symptoms of aches, pain, or tenderness in the muscles, ligaments, or other soft tissues. This can interfere with normal movement, sleep, exercise, work, and other activities.
As chiropractors, we have had many patients come in to our office with a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. They have been to every kind of doctor you can think of, have taken multiple prescriptions, and basically been written off by the medical community with a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. They are frustrated, depressed, tired, and in pain. They decide that maybe chiropractic can help. And it works!
Natural Ways To Treat Fibromyalgia
Yes, fibromyalgia is treatable, and yes it can be treated naturally. Chiropractic care is a great place to start. Chiropractors are the expert in musculo-skeletal conditions, and fibromyalgia most certainly falls under that category. What will a chiropractor do? Well, first of all you will receive a complete examination and personal history to determine if you are indeed a chiropractic patient. X-rays may be taken if there is a need or a red flag in your history. Red flags can be a history of cancer or recent trauma. X-rays are not always necessary. And then a chiropractor will evaluate your spine for subluxations.
A subluxation simply means that you have one or more vertebra (bones of the spine) that are not moving correctly. This can cause pain and many other symptoms including numbness, tingling, weakness, fatigue, and less range of motion. Over time subluxations can lead to more serious disease. Subluxations cause interference in the nervous system’s ability to communicate. These garbled messages than are sent out to the body. This can lead to disease and illness.
A chiropractor performs a specific chiropractic adjustment to correct your subluxations and free up this interference.
Another natural treatment that you can use at home for fibromyalgia is essential oils.
What Essential Oils Are Recommended For Fibromyalgia?
Essential oils recommended for fibromyalgia include Deep Blue, wintergreen, helichrysum, lavender, rosemary, and thyme. It is recommended that you use these oils therapeutically. You would add 1-2 drops of the essential oil to 1 tablespoon of oil (coconut, olive, grapeseed) and massage on location of your pain. Than you can apply a warm compress over that area as well.
Other natural recommendations include eliminating refined sugar from your diet, a candida cleanse, reduce stress, perform stretching exercises, massage, and try to get regular and better rest. I would also recommend a good multivitamin supplement and calcium/magnesium supplement as well.
Fibromyalgia is a treatable condition. You do not have to suffer, and you can feel better. I would encourage you to explore natural alternatives to relieve your pain and discomfort.
