What Natural Home Remedy Healed My Pink Eye?

I always love when I find a new home remedy that works so well!

Now this one may sound a little weird and is not available to everyone, but it worked great.  Therefore I had to write a quick post.  The story is that I developed pink eye after treating all three of  my children’s pink eye.  I really thought that I had taken every precaution to avoid getting pink eye, but on Christmas morning there it was.  Being that I am a chiropractor and prefer natural, home remedies, I started treating with lavender essential oil compresses and homeopathic eye drops.  The lavender as a hot compress aids in pulling the infection from your eye while soothing the irritation as well. Unfortunately, my condition progressed quickly throughout the day, and by the next morning my right eye was completely swollen shut.  I absolutely did not want to get antibiotics, as pink eye is self-limiting, meaning your body’s immune system will take care of it without antibiotics.  So what did I do?  I went to Google of course.

What is the free home remedy that worked for me?

Breast milk.  That is right.  I happen to be still breastfeeding our youngest son, and one of the number one home remedies I found was breast milk.  Free and natural.  It does not get better than that.  By the way, this is a safe and natural treatment for infants and children with pink eye as well.  I do realize that everyone does not have access to a lactating mother.

Why Breast Milk?

Natural immune factors are found in breast milk as well as probiotics.  A liquid form of probiotics works as well.  I have to tell you that placing drops of breast milk into my eyes seemed strange, but was so soothing.  The milk did not sting and had a cooling affect.  Within 12 hours, my swelling was gone, I could open my eye, and the oozing had stopped.  I forgot to mention that my pink eye had started to spread to my left eye as well, and I was dreading having both eyes be so bad.  I treated my left eye with breast milk as well that evening and prevented the progression my right eye had taken.  Now two days later, my pink eye is almost resolved.  Normally pink eye may take 7-10 days to heal and resolve.  I am very happy with the results of this home remedy and wanted to share with all.

Happy natural home remedy searching to all! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
